A study published in Health Affairs finds results of the Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program may be overstated and that decreases in readmission rates for acute myocardial infarction, heart failure and pneumonia are 48% lower than previously reported. The discrepancy appears to be tied mainly to a change in electronic transaction standards used by hospitals to submit Medicare claims.
