Rules have yet to be promulgated implementing a law passed by Congress five years ago to reduce unnecessary diagnostic imaging under Medicare. The CMS says it will test enforcement next year and will not decide until 2022 or 2023 when to begin penalizing health care providers who do not confirm compliance with clinical guidelines or obtain authorization for certain diagnostic imaging.
