Patients with inflammatory bowel disease rarely develop hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, but in those who do, rapid treatment is needed to prevent complications, according to a retrospective study in Digestive Diseases and Sciences. The majority of the 58 patients with IBD were diagnosed with HLH while taking a biologic therapy course, which suggests that "HLH should be especially considered during early treatment for active moderate-to-severe IBD," researchers wrote.
