Appointment reminders, prompts to take medications, health updates and requests for feedback increasingly arrive via text message, and while text messaging is effective, it can be overdone, researchers reported in JAMA Network Open. Patients who received between 10 and 20 health messages via text or more than one interactive voice response message a year were much more likely to opt out of receiving future messages by both modes of communication than those who received fewer texts or IVR messages.
