A "watch and wait" approach for some patients with rectal cancer who were successfully treated with neoadjuvant therapy appears to be safe, according to a study led by Geerard Beets, MD, of Maastricht University Medical Center in the Netherlands that was published in the Annals of Surgery. Eighty-nine of the 400 patients studied had a local recurrence, but most of them underwent local salvage treatment, researchers said.
