Clinical guidelines for achalasia released by ACG

The American College of Gastroenterology developed guidelines for the rare disorder achalasia that include botulinum toxin injections as a first-line treatment and Dor or Toupet fundoplication to reduce acid exposure in the esophagus for patients who have surgical myotomy. Patients should not have routine endoscopic screenings for esophageal cancer, according to the guidelines.
