AMA delegates support colorectal cancer screening initiatives

Delegates at the American Medical Association's annual meeting endorsed a plan supporting Medicare coverage for colorectal cancer screenings that comply with Affordable Care Act-compliant plans, meaning patients are not charged extra if a polyp is found and removed during colonoscopy. Delegates also said the AMA should work with colorectal screening specialists on correct billing guidance for colorectal cancer screenings and to improve understanding among clinicians, payers and patients about what is covered at various cost-sharing levels.
