Inflammatory bowel disease patients between the ages of 15 and 29 are using opioids more to manage their pain, according to a study by Anava Wren of the Stanford Children's Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center. Patients treated with opioids for at least four years went to the emergency department and were hospitalized more than those not taking the drugs, the study found.
