A study based on data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey found the rate of hepatitis B infection was more than four times higher among adults who had used injection drugs in the past compared with the general population. Almost 20% of people who had used injection drugs had a previous or ongoing case of hepatitis B, according to the study in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases.
