A study presented at the ACG Annual Scientific Meeting showed that female patients with type 2 diabetes were at a 71% increased risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease progression, compared with male patients, while an almost 60% higher risk of developing NAFLD was found among those with obesity. Researchers used a cohort of 50,695 patients and found that NAFLD regression was associated with male sex, higher baseline albumin and aspartate aminotransferase levels, ethnicity other than Caucasian and pentoxifylline use.
