The number of veterans with inflammatory bowel disease and mental health disorders is declining, according to a study led by Jason Hou, MD, of the gastroenterology division at Baylor College of Medicine, that was published in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. The number of veterans affected fell to 3.6 per 100 IBD patients in 2015 from 6.1 per 100 patients in 2001, and "future research is warranted to understand the role IBD plays in contributing to psychiatric distress and vice versa," researchers wrote.
