Patient photos in EHRs reduce order entry errors

Wrong-patient order entry dropped by 35% over a two-year period with no increase in clinician burden or alert fatigue after a hospital emergency department began including patient headshots in EHRs, according to a study in JAMA Network Open. Researchers say the benefits will far outweigh the costs of training staff and buying six cameras that cost less than $2,000 total.
