An Urban Institute report found the uninsured rate among adults ages 19 to 25 dropped from 30% to 16% between 2011 and 2018, largely due to the expansion of Medicaid coverage under the Affordable Care Act. Data shows Medicaid enrollment for the age group climbed 11% to 15% during the period, and researchers estimate that Medicaid expansion was associated with a 3.6% drop in the overall number of young people without health insurance.
