PPI co-therapy tied to fewer admissions for upper GI bleeding in study

Patients taking an anticoagulant and a proton pump inhibitor were hospitalized less for upper GI bleeding, according to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The study's results show the benefits of assessing a patient's risk for GI bleeding before starting anticoagulants, said Wayne Ray of the department of health policy at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, who led the study.
