Oil, gas and chemical companies promoted plastic for decades by telling the public it could easily be recycled, even as they knew that wasn't the case, according to an investigation by National Public Radio and PBS Frontline. Executives "knew that the infrastructure wasn't there to really have recycling amount to a whole lot," said Larry Thomas, former president of the forerunner to the Plastics Industry Association.
