5 companies vie for work on L.A. transit line

Five companies have applied and qualified to submit predevelopment agreement proposals to design, build and operate a public transit line between the San Fernando Valley and west Los Angeles and Los Angeles International Airport. The project could cost $13.8 billion, according to one estimate, but the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority will receive $9.5 billion from a sales tax ballot measure.
