The Army Corps of Engineers has finished an Environmental Assessment for dismantling the SM-1 nuclear power plant at Fort Belvoir, Va., concluding that the reactor's removal would have "long-term beneficial impacts" on the surrounding area. USACE Project Manager Brenda Barber says the Corps anticipates "awarding a decommissioning contract by September 2020 with mobilization work on-site beginning in early 2021."
