Christopher and Marti Burgess, pharmacists and owners of Heritage Compounding Pharmacy in Alabama, agreed to a $1.9 million settlement to resolve allegations they defrauded Tricare. Authorities accused the couple of paying kickbacks to doctors in exchange for prescribing medically unnecessary pain creams and then submitting close to $6.4 million worth of fraudulent claims to Tricare for those prescriptions from January 2013 to May 2015.
