Youths with COVID-19 who developed multisystem inflammatory syndrome had acute respiratory distress syndrome, heart failure and pulmonary embolism on thoracic imaging, as well as varying extrathoracic findings from usual acute COVID-19 cases, according to an article in Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging. "This signals an important paradigm shift in our understanding of pediatric COVID-19 infection: from a primarily respiratory illness to multiorgan system disease," researchers wrote.
