A Census Bureau report found the percentage of Americans who were uninsured climbed to 8.5%, or 27.5 million people, in 2018 from 7.9%, or 25.6 million people, in 2017. The increase was largely driven by reductions in Medicaid coverage, which fell by nearly 2 million to 57.8 million people in 2018.
