Nonprofit group American Forests has released a "tree equity" tool that analyzes demographic factors, density and average temperature to identify the areas that most need additional trees. The tool has so far been used in Phoenix, the San Francisco Bay area and Rhode Island, and the group plans to grow the tool's coverage to include 70% of the urban population in the US by 2022.
