Researchers led by Colorado State University hydrologist Stephanie Kampf have set up instruments to gather data on the impact of wildfires on snowpack. Meanwhile, geography professor Anne Nolin of the University of Nevada, Reno, says, "We're kind of in a brave new world when it comes to snow and wildfire." Nolin notes that snow that falls in burned areas can have its composition changed as it mixes with ash.
