A large iceberg separated from the warming Pine Island Glacier in West Antarctica over the weekend and broke apart into smaller pieces as it drifted into the sea, satellite images show. Scientists are concerned further destabilization at the glacier, which has experienced other major separations in recent years, could lead to rapid ice loss.
