In the US an estimated 162,000 Americans die each year from drug-resistant infections and a new alliance called Working to Fight AMR, made up of biotechnology stakeholders, aims to advance the development of new antibiotics to combat antimicrobial resistance. "Resistance is increasing, and we are not producing enough new drugs to keep pace," said Greg Frank, director of Working to Fight AMR, and BIO's director for infectious disease.
