The FDA has released guidelines for approving a COVID-19 vaccine, noting that the vaccine must prevent or reduce disease severity in at least 50% of those inoculated. The guidance is similar to influenza vaccine guidelines, and "I think that's a low to maybe an appropriate bar for a first-generation COVID-19 vaccine," said Mayo Vaccine Research Group director Dr. Gregory Poland.
