North Carolina Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler advised owners of horses, donkeys or mules to have their animals vaccinated against Eastern equine encephalomyelitis, West Nile virus and rabies. State Veterinarian Douglas Meckes said a mild winter will probably mean more mosquitoes and cases of mosquito-borne viruses this year, and equid owners should talk to their veterinarian about an effective vaccination protocol.
