The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is holding public hearings on a plan to capture J50, a young female orca that is likely near death, if she becomes stranded and try to nurse her back to health before returning her to her pod in the Salish Sea. Separating orcas from their families causes trauma, but veterinarian Joe Gaydos says J50 is so sick and emaciated, it may be her only chance to survive.
