Researchers explore drivers, solutions for rehoming horses

Unwanted horses pose an important welfare issue, and veterinary researchers say the top reasons owners in the UK seek to rehome their horses are lack of resources, owner health problems, changing family circumstances, a lack of anyone to ride the horse, unsuitability of the horse and bad behavior. They explored the factors that influence successful rehoming, and their findings suggest education before owners adopt a horse could mitigate some of the issues.
