Anamosa Veterinary Clinic in Iowa held the first of two canine influenza immunization clinics last weekend to facilitate the vaccination of as many dogs as possible. According to the AVMA, the virus spreads through contact with infected surfaces or air; dogs that spend time around other dogs are at especially high risk; the virus lingers on hands, clothing and surfaces for 12 to 48 hours; and about 80% of dogs that are exposed will develop symptoms.
