Salmonellosis has sickened and killed birds this winter throughout the Pacific Northwest, California and Idaho, and state wildlife officials have asked residents to either remove bird feeders or thoroughly clean them daily until at least April 1. "Birds use natural food sources year-round, even while also using backyard bird feeders, so they should be fine without the feeders for another month," said veterinarian Kristin Mansfield, with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
