Hedgehogs are solitary animals and not naturally cuddly, they are very active at night, they probably won't make friends with other pets, and they are susceptible to rabies and distemper and may transmit viruses and other pathogens. They are also prone to obesity, have specific diet requirements, need frequent bathing and nail trimming, and need continual warmth, says veterinarian Sydney Brehm.
