Veterinarians, biologists and local guides have been cruising the Trans-Pantanal Highway in search of animals injured in massive fires charring the world's largest wetland and one of the most diverse ecosystems on Earth. "We've seen a lot of dead animals, mainly reptiles, serpents, caimans ... a lot of dead deer, dead tapirs, dead monkeys, dead coati," said veterinarian Jorge Salomao Jr.
