Forensic veterinarians are gathering for the international Veterinary Forensic Sciences Conference in Oregon, which has some of the strongest animal abuse laws in the nation. Forensic veterinarians use medical technology and expertise to detect evidence of abuse and neglect, and though the work is difficult, it is also gratifying to see abused animals heal and get into loving homes, says veterinarian Kris Otteman, one of the first forensic veterinarians in the US.
