Some horses recover quickly from respiratory viruses while others take longer or develop secondary conditions, and horses should be given at least one day of rest per day of fever after clinical signs dissipate, writes veterinarian Jordan Kiviniemi-Moore. Horses can continue to shed viruses after recovery and should be isolated for at least 28 days after symptoms resolve, or until a veterinarian confirms the virus has cleared.
