One person is dead and more than 150 have been hospitalized in a salmonellosis outbreak that has sickened nearly 1,000 people in every state except Hawaii and Rhode Island. The CDC says chicks and ducklings purchased from agricultural stores, websites and hatcheries are the sources of three Salmonella strains causing the illnesses, and the agency says people should not treat backyard poultry like pets.
