Giardiasis likely culprit in canine diarrhea cases

Dogs can easily pick up giardia parasites from puddles and spread infection to other dogs, causing gastrointestinal distress, and owners should clean up feces immediately and not allow their dogs to drink from puddles or public bowls, veterinarians say. A recent uptick of diarrhea in dogs in Charlotte, N.C., is likely due to giardiasis, veterinarian Thomas Watson says, and dogs with signs of infection should receive veterinary attention promptly.
