Ladybugs and Asian lady beetles may look similar, but ladybugs kill garden pests and are nontoxic to pets, while their invasive counterparts are pests, will invade homes and are harmful to dogs that eat enough of them, says veterinarian Tina Wismer. Dogs that eat Asian lady beetles can develop mouth and stomach ulcers or gastrointestinal illness, according to Dr. Wismer and the AVMA.
