Veterinarians may suggest blood panels for pets to get baseline data, and blood panels are used to detect early signs of liver, kidney, pancreatic and other diseases, writes veterinarian Fayez Assad. Blood work also helps veterinarians determine whether pets are healthy enough to undergo surgery, monitor the health of pets on long-term medications and "catch any abnormalities before they become troublesome to our patients," Dr. Assad writes.
