Layla, a 2,300-pound eastern black rhinoceros at the Chicago-area Brookfield Zoo, is recovering from surgery to relieve a nasal obstruction revealed by a CT scan, which showed abnormal tissue in the root of one of Layla's upper molars. Nearly 40 staff members practiced moving 2,300 pounds of concrete before moving the rhinoceros with a front-end loader and a custom-made wooden platform.
