The shortage of veterinarians in parts of Ohio has worsened over the past several years, says Jack Advent, executive director of the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association, and some clinics that were already short-staffed have stopped accepting new clients until after they've cleared backlogs. Veterinarian John Daugherty says his clinic has been seeking another veterinarian for nearly two years, and he and his colleagues are trying to catch up with routine care delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.
