Livestock industry takes lessons from COVID-19 response

USDA scientists and livestock producers are watching the COVID-19 pandemic closely for lessons on preventing zoonotic disease spillover events that could threaten people, poultry, livestock and the world's food supply. Ranchers, farmers and feedlot operators are on the lookout for signs of illness in the animals they tend; the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility will study live, large animals and highly infectious diseases; and organizations working with state and federal officials on regional response plans are developing disease testing and tracing plans.
