Chinese law prohibits the unauthorized transport of live animals, but that hasn't stopped some online sellers from offering "blind boxes" that contain a puppy, kitten, hamster, rabbit or other pet, hundreds of which have been found sick or dead by mail handlers. The sellers look like normal businesses and have evaded China's surveillance system, says Peter Li, an associate professor of East Asian politics at the University of Houston.
