Advances in diagnostic methods and therapeutics have improved the prognosis for cats with chronic kidney disease, veterinary internal medicine professor Shelly Vaden said during the New Therapeutic Approaches to Chronic Care Symposium at AVMA Virtual Convention 2020. Dr. Vaden says the International Renal Interest Society's disease staging system helps veterinarians communicate expected CKD progression and guides treatment plans, and veterinarian Jennifer Ogeer says a new artificial intelligence platform identified health conditions linked to CKD and can predict CKD risk before clinical signs manifest.
