Seventeen-year-old Judge Sue "Lady" Sloan, one of Baylor University's two American black bear mascots, is undergoing tomotherapy for a benign tumor found near her heart during a routine veterinary examination. Thymomas have few early clinical signs and are typically diagnosed after growing so large they compress the heart and lungs, says veterinary radiation oncologist Lauren Smith, but Lady's thymoma was caught early, and her prognosis is good.
