Feline leukomyelopathy has likely sickened at least 19 Florida panthers and 18 bobcats since 2017, threatening wild populations of both species in the state. Scientists suspect a neurotoxin, virus, nutritional deficiency or some combination of the three, and a coalition of conservation organizations, research institutions and private citizens are working to identify the cause before it is too late.
