A novel strain of rotavirus that evades the available vaccine caused an outbreak of diarrhea in foals in central Kentucky, according to researchers at the University of Kentucky's Gluck Equine Research Center and the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The researchers have identified potential tests for the strain, and they are studying the effects of antimicrobial treatment and whether a home-fermented live yogurt supplement effectively promotes gut health.
