A bill reintroduced by Sens. Mike Crapo, R-Idaho, and Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., would eliminate withholding tax on student loan repayment funds for veterinarians who agree to practice in underserved areas under the Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program. A combination of high student debt and low salaries for large-animal veterinarians "can make it financially challenging for new veterinarians to pursue opportunities in food animal medicine," the AVMA says.
