Users of the free Finding Rover app can upload an image and basic details of a missing dog or cat, and the app scans a database of rescued or found pets at some 600 shelters in the US, Canada and Australia. The app uses facial recognition technology to match fur color and texture, snout shape, distance between the eyes and other features, and the developer says it is 98% accurate and has already matched more than 15,000 missing pets with their owners.
