Drug might heal lung disease in dogs, people

Veterinarian Elizabeth Rozanski is leading a clinical trial at Tufts University's School of Veterinary Medicine of a treatment for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a lung disease that affects West Highland terriers and other breeds, as well as people. The treatment, sobetirome, was developed to reduce cholesterol and works like a thyroid hormone in animal models of pulmonary fibrosis, and Dr. Rozanski is partnering with Yale University School of Medicine physician Naftali Kaminski on the study.
