Wasp venom protein kills lethal bacteria in mice

A modified peptide derived from wasp venom prevented lethal E. coli infections in mice, according to a study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The researchers altered the section of the protein believed to make the wasp's venom toxic to human cells, and the new molecule killed bacteria without inducing severe side effects.
